SWEEPINGS, STEEPINGS: A Communal Meal

Zahra Komeylian and Ayumi Goto in collaboration
Carleton University Art Gallery, public performance

July 2021

Commissioned by the Carleton University Art Gallery, Sweepings-Steepings: A Communal Meal was a collective performance held alongside Jin-me Yoon’s retrospective exhibition, Here Elsewhere Other Hauntings (an experiment in pandemic times). Bringing together participants from GTA and the Ottawa region via zoom, this collective performance used food as a means of experimenting with alternative modes of care and critical engagement outside of institutional boundaries. Orchestrated in response to the video work, Other Hauntings (Song), 2016, particants prepared a meal with prepared ingredients, and collective readings prepared by the artists.

Cooking ingredients, collective readings, and performance ephemera prepared by the artists was sent to participants.
